To solder properly, you must remember some rules.
1. Once your iron is hot, put a piece of solder on the tip and let
it sit there for a couple seconds. Then wipe it off on the sponge.
(This is called Tinning the tip)
2. Before applying solder to joints, heat up the leads of what you
are trying to connect first. Simply place the tip of your iron on
both of the leads for 5-7 seconds and then apply solder while holding
your iron still in place.
3. Clean off your soldering iron after you have finished with it. If you
don't, it could hard the iron and eat away in to the metal.
4. Never yank a cord to the soldering iron out of the wall. Pull it
out gently because the iron could fall on you and trust me, they burn bad.
